8 things to do before you propose

8 things to do before you propose

To meet the love of your life is such a wonderful feeling! Imagine when everything just seems to be a perfect fit - like you have found the missing puzzle piece - and you finally feel complete? You’re in that moment when you can say that you have finally found what you have been searching for your entire life. Now you think you’re finally ready for that next big step: the proposal.

Marriage, as most people say, is a long journey that should be prepared for diligently. So, before embarking on this new chapter, have you asked yourself how ready you really are for it? If you can’t seem to have an answer for that question - it can be overwhelming, we know – don’t worry! Relax. We’re here to help.

Before you “pop the big question”, here are some tips to consider:

  1. Are you both on the same page?
It’s important to make sure both of you are on the same page. Ask how your partner feels about marriage. Find out what hopes and dreams they have for the future. A spontaneous proposal is amazing, but the idea of marriage shouldn’t be a surprise. If you’re both headed the same direction, you’ll not only have a successful proposal but a long, and happy marriage.
  1. Ask the parents
A bit old-fashioned? Yes. But this is really one of the first things to consider before everything else. Establishing a good relationship with your future fiance’s parents (and potential in-laws) is vital for a healthy marriage. Including them in the proposal could help strengthen your relationship with your future “mom and dad.”
  1. Purchasing the ring
Buying an engagement ring for your partner can be difficult; there are a lot of options to choose from. If you’re going the surprise route, check your partner’s jewellery. Find a ring that they wear regularly and either bring it to a good jeweler, or mark how far it fits on your own finger. Worried about messing up the size? Don’t! You can always have a ring resized. So, before you get down on one knee, make sure to have all the details right. We guarantee she’ll love it when she sees it and she’d happily say, “yes!”
  1. Keeping the ring safe
The moment you have the ring in your hands, make sure to keep it safe! Find the perfect box for it. Keep it well hidden (wouldn’t want your fiancé to accidentally see it!) And once you’re ready, take a deep breath and make sure you don’t drop the ring!

  2. Get personal with the proposal
Now that you’ve considered a few things before the proposal, it’s time to plan the proposal! Think about whether your partner would love to have a grand gesture or an intimate one (this is very important). Find a place where your partner would feel comfortable, or better yet, a meaningful and significant place for the both of you or your partner. However you do it, the more personal it is, the bigger the impact you’ll make.
  1. Find the perfect moment
You might think that picking a date would be earlier on our proposal checklist, but if you’re planning on an extravagant proposal, you might have to plan things around someone else’s schedule. Between booking photographers and venues, to getting all of your loved ones to show up at your favourite restaurant for an engagement party, cross checking calendars should happen after you’ve come up with a plan.

  2. Plan a celebration
You don’t need a big one - just the perfect place for the both of you to celebrate as a newly engaged couple! Book a table at your favourite restaurant, or play a movie outside your house with a cozy setting and a candle-lit dinner. However you want to do it, just make sure to precisely plan the celebration of the big moment. And of course, Don’t forget the champagne!

  3. Capture the moment
Whether you hire a professional, assign a trusty family member or ask a good friend to do it, make sure to capture the moment! Everyone will appreciate you for documenting an unforgettable event.

And now, you’re ready to pop the question! When that right moment comes, take a deep breath, get down on one knee, and pitch the sentimental speech that you probably rehearsed a million times! You got this, and congratulations to the newly engaged couples!
