Everything you need to know about Eternity rings

Traditionally, eternity rings are given on significant anniversaries, the birth of a first child, or important relationship milestones. A popular choice for wedding rings, as its continuous line of stones symbolizes everlasting love and a couple's infinite commitment. However, recently, eternity rings have been purchased just as much as a symbol of self-love and personal empowerment beyond romantic occasions. Often bought to celebrate personal growth, career achievements, or other individual milestones.

Whether you opt for eternity rings as a wedding band, a special gift for someone, or to oneself, here are 5S you might want to consider checking before making your purchase.

☑ Style

☑ Stone

☑ Shape

☑ Setting

☑ Size

STYLE

Decide whether you want your eternity ring done in 5-stone, 7-stone, half, or full. As each style's name suggests, 5 or 7-stone eternity rings features the respective number of stones set on the band, the half eternity is made with your choice of gems or diamonds adorning only the top half of the band, while the full eternity features a continuous line of diamonds or gemstones that goes all around the ring.

STONE

While diamonds are widely used for eternity rings and other jewelry pieces, they can be embellished with a variety of gemstones, too. This allows for a more personalized and unique piece of jewelry, often adding deeper meaning through birthstones or personal color preferences. Colored gemstones on eternity rings are also used to mark significant milestones such as Rubies for 40th wedding anniversaries, and Sapphires for the 45th.

SHAPE

Choose a shape that resonates with you and your personality. Whether it be a classic or modern cut. Rounded or angular. Each shape brings a unique charm to the ring, allowing you to create a piece that’s deeply symbolic of your love and commitment. Round, oval, emerald, princess, marquise, cushion, or even a mix of two or more cuts, the option to play around with shapes is endless.

SIZE

Getting the perfect size right the first time is one of the important things that need to be considered when deciding which kind of eternity ring to go for. While the other options are more manageable to resize, full eternity rings leave little to no room for resizing. While it can be done, resizing a full eternity ring would require removing and resetting individual stones to adjust the size to avoid the risk of damaging the stones, and make room for adjustments. So ensure to carefully get the right measurements.

SETTING

As a wedding band or for stacking, the setting of eternity rings plays a part in the overall look you're going for as it should complement either your engagement ring or the rings you're stacking it with. The way your stones are set is important for security, and the overall look.

Here are some of the most commonly preferred settings for eternity rings:

  • Channel setting - A traditional setting frequently used in full, chevron, or half-eternity ring designs. With this setting, stones are 'flushed' set or the stones do not protrude beyond the top of the metal hugging it.
  • Pave setting -  The term 'pave' is derived from a French word meaning 'pavement', hence, the diamonds are set onto the band close together in a manner that resembles a diamond road.
  • Prong setting - Diamonds on a prong-set eternity bands stand out above the base of the band as opposed to paving where it is set into the band itself. Prong settings come in multiple variations such as wave prong, u-prong, shared prong, and many more.
  • Bezel setting - Bezel settings refer to bands in which each diamond is enclosed in a rim of metal. This style of eternity bands leans towards a more vintage look.

Eternity rings are timeless. It's the perfect blend of symbolism, and versatility, and gives room for one to explore and express their creative, unique self. A special symbol of everlasting love and commitment, and a celebratory piece for monumental milestones. Certainly, a treasured piece that belongs in everyone's jewelry collection.
